Radiology AI Research Grant Program

Overview

Harrison.ai Services, in partnership with Frontier Radiology, is pleased to announce a research grant program for senior residents and fellows in Radiology. This program supports original AI radiology research. The proposal should be for research not already published.

Up to three (3) grants will be awarded. Award includes research grant, RSNA attendance, and research displayed at Frontier Radiology booth and RSNA social hour with Harrison.ai Services and Frontier founders.

Research Focus Area

Proposals for research should address how AI is being used to address some of the challenges seen in radiology today. Special consideration will be given for proposals that address the specific challenges seen in teleradiology. Research may fit within one or more of the following categories:

Workflow efficiency

How AI affects radiologist workflow, turnaround time, or productivity

Model performance / accuracy

Evaluation of AI accuracy against reference standards

Reader study

How AI changes radiologist performance or experience, with and without assistance

Quality / safety

Clinical quality, safety, bias, or risk associated with AI use in radiology

About the Harrison Rad 1.5 Foundation Model

All participants have the option to perform original research using Harrison.ai’s radiology foundation model, Rad 1.5, capable of generating draft reports across all plain film (radiographic) studies.

For this research grant program, Harrison.ai will provide research-only access to Rad 1.5, enabling participants to design and conduct original research on the model’s application to clinical workflows and reporting. The model will be available through a web-interface, allowing for processing of de-identified DICOM datasets and generation of draft reports.

Proposals for research using other radiology AI models will be considered with the same weight. There will be no preference given to proposals for research using the Rad 1.5 foundation model.

Award details

Up to three (3) research grants will be awarded. Total award amount is $7,500, which includes:

  • Grant covering up to US$3,000 in research expenses, e.g., IRB review, de-identification software, etc.
  • Registration fee for the RSNA Annual Meeting (Nov. 29 – Dec. 3, 2026, Chicago, IL)
  • Up to two (2) nights’ hotel accommodations during the 2026 RSNA Annual Meeting
  • A US$1,000 stipend to offset additional costs (e.g., travel, materials, incidentals)
  • Research e-poster displayed at 2026 RSNA Frontier Radiology booth and social hour with Harrison Services and Frontier founders
  • Research publication support

Eligibility

This program is open to US-based PGY-4 to PGY-6 in Radiology.

Proposal requirements

Complete applications must include the following components: 

  • Research proposal (1,000-word limit, tables and figures not included in limit), structured as: Background, Objectives, Methods, Timeline, and Budget.  
  • Applicant curriculum vitae (CV) 

Proposals exceeding the 1,000-word limit (excluding the CV) may be deemed ineligible for review. 

Applications will be reviewed by a panel and scored against the following weighted criteria: scientific merit and novelty (20%); methodological rigor and feasibility of design (20%); fit with research focus areas (15%); feasibility of timeline and budget (15%); clarity and quality of the written proposal (10%); applicant potential, based on CV (10%); and anticipated impact and dissemination potential (10%).

Human subject research / IRB approval

If a proposed study involves the processing or synthesis of any identifying patient information, the study qualifies as human subject research and requires Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval. IRB approval is not required at the time of application; grant recipients selected for funding must obtain IRB approval prior to initiating any such research activities.

Applications must be received by 11:59 PM ET on September 1, 2026. Late or incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Should you apply, you undertake to the following terms and conditions:

  • Frontier Radiology and Harrison.ai Services reserve the right to modify program terms, deadlines, award structure or withdraw any grant at their discretion at any time. 
  • Any decision made by Frontier Radiology and Harrison.ai Services is final and binding.
